P.U.M.A. Blackbelt Grading 5th October 2019
Students from around Great Britain traveled to the Dorcan Recreational Complex Swindon to test for Blackbelt (1st Degree) and higher Degree grades. The test involves students demonstrating all aspects of their Taekwon-Do training to a panel of Senior grade Instructors headed by P.U.M.A.'s Chairman Master R. Gayle 8th Degree. P.U.M.A. also held their first Bo Staff (Jang Bong) Blackbelt Grading at which students demonstrated their skills to a panel headed by P.U.M.A.'s Vice Chairman Master M. Ogborne 7th Degree. Although all students have received their results they now have to wait until the P.U.M.A. Presentation Evening for their Belt, Certificate and any other awards. ITF Open British Championships 23rd November 2019.
K2 Leisure Centre, Crawley.
(Write up and Photo's by New Century Squad Coach Miss Emma Deakin 5th Degree).
Well I am immensely proud of Aiden Bailey and Iden Hubbuck (Chesterfield TKD) and Mikael Cacia and Josh Williams (all PUMA North New Century TKD students) for there recent efforts at the ITF British Open 2019. The tournament attracts over 600 high caliber competitors, many of whom have years of international experience behind them. Our four students did not let this faze them, with terrific performances in both patterns and sparring from all of them!
Aidan Bailey (recently relocated and training with PUMA Swain TKD) secured a well deserved Silver in 2nd Degree patterns and Bronze in sparring. Josh Williams also won Silver in patterns and Gold in sparring. Iden and Mikael did not medal this time, but in tough divisions they should be proud of their efforts. I am sure with their commitment and attitude towards training, medals will come in the New Year!
Thank you goes out to PUMA coaches who coached on the day and of course parents for supporting the event!
I would also like to say well done and thank you to Mr Thomas Bailey who officiated at the event. A long and busy day be all accounts. These events can not run without officials- your time is appreciated!
Lots to look forward to in 2020. Some amazing talent in the Northern Squad and I can’t wait to see you all achieve new heights in the New Year!
We hold regular Squads which provide extra coaching in all aspects of Taekwon-Do and are open to all grades.
Our team of coaches headed by two World Champions do a great job, our last Squad had 60 taking part.

Open to Little Pumas and Juniors this competition was three hours of action packed FUN events which included Patterns, Sparton, Duster sparring, Speed test, Supermarket sweep and TKD surfing. Six teams worked their way through the various tasks scoring points for each one. The highest scoring team (BLAZE) received Gold trophies. Next highest (STRIKE) Silver medals with joint 3rd place (Bronze Green ribbon) THUNDER & LIGHTNING. and joint 4th (Bronze purple ribbon) POW & FLASH. Other fund raising events were guess the weight of a cake (kindly cooked and donated by Mrs Sue Deakin), a raffle with lots of interesting items including several months of free training and proceeds from the sale of drinks/snacks. Santa also made a quick visit to give everyone a Pre-Christmas present. Thanks go to all the officials/helpers for creating such a great atmosphere for all to enjoy. The aim of the Competition was for everyone to enjoy themselves (which they did) and to raise money for charity (which we did). A very successful day resulting in £623 being made for this years chosen charity MIND. Thanks again to everyone who attended.
